England, inspired by Kevin Pietersen's brilliant 62, narrowly missed out on a dramatic victory as the fifth Ashes test ended in a draw on an enthralling final day at The Oval on Sunday.
Captain Michael Clarke had declared Australia's second innings on 111 for six and set England a challenging target in a bid to force a consolation victory but it was the hosts who went close to sealing their first 4-0 win in a home Ashes series.
"We wanted to entertain," Pietersen
"We lost a day's play and we like to entertain. I was in my own bubble - I was just trying to get through stages. I had flashbacks of 2005 but the way we played today puts us in good stead for the winter."
Joe Root, on 11, edged Harris to wicketkeeper Brad Haddin before Cook and Jonathan Trott shared a fluent second-wicket partnership of 64 to lay a solid platform.
The tall right-hander struck his first boundary off his fourth ball and immediately injected urgency into the run chase, creaming Peter Siddle through the covers for four and flicking him to fine leg for another.
With the crowd sensing a famous victory, Trott also passed 50 before Pietersen fell with the score on 163, well caught by David Warner running round the long-on boundary off Harris.

Trott was snared lbw by Faulkner for 59 but Ian Bell and Chris Woakes kept the momentum going and England needed 36 from the last six overs.

Shehzad heroics

Shehzad heroics

Ahmed Shehzad's impressive form continued as he struck an unbeaten 98 to help Pakistan beat Zimbabwe by 19 runs and wrap up the Twenty20 series in the second match at Harare Sports Club on Saturday.
Zimbabwe started their reply brightly, but some excellent spin bowling from Mohammad Hafeez (three for 30) and Zulfiqar Babar (two for 21) put the hosts behind the required rate and they never recovered, ending their 20 overs on 160 for six.
"They are showing great trust in each other and this is something we are trying to develop in our team. We thought 150 to 160 would be good on this track but Ahmed played very well."
After the loss of Nasir Jamshed (23), Hafeez joined Shehzad at the crease and the pair bludgeoned their way to a second wicket partnership of 143 in under 15 overs. It was the joint-fifth highest partnership for all wickets in Twenty20 international history.
"They got 20 too much, their two batters made it very difficult for us, but I also thought our bowlers missed their mark too many times,"  Taylor said.
Pakistan 179 for one off 20 overs (Ahmed Shehzad 98 not out, Mohammad Hafeez 54 not out) vs Zimbabwe 160 for six off 20 overs (Mohammad Hafeez 3-30).

The fourth day's play in the fifth and final Ashes Test between England and Australia was abandoned due to rain at The Oval on Saturday.

Wayne Parnell and Simon Harmer put South Africa ‘A’ with a respectable 231 for six on the opening day of the second unofficial Test in Pretoria on Saturday.
The Indians seemed to have put their feet off the pedal in the last session which yielded 103 runs without any wicket.
The visitors, who were aiming for a clean sweep in the two-match series after their emphatic innings win in the first match, looked set to skittle the South Africans for a paltry total after reducing them to 97 for six in 34 overs but failed to go for the kill after tea break.
